Double House - 2010

Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Client: Private
Project Status: Ongoing

The Double House is the result of an evolving process of design development between M•A&D and the client. The two small family houses form part of a constricted sloped plot that overlooks the local context and the city beyond.

The maximization of the site through two forms created dual functionality and occupancy options for the client while offering an alternative to the common singular block. The exposed in-situ concrete structural frame of each house intends to translates a tactile connection to the surrounding landscape and facilitates four and five metre openings on each wall on both floors. The green heart timber framed shutters along the north, east, south and west facades offer adjustable framed views through each opening, creating a seamless relationship between the natural and artificial environment.
